A specialist water treatment and clean energy solutions provider working with Bournemouth Water has been awarded The King’s Award for Enterprise and Innovation in recognition of work that will directly support improvements to water treatment for customers across the region.
The award recognises RSE’s work in developing modular water treatment systems which are helping to change how water treatment is delivered to Bournemouth Water customers.
Bournemouth Water has worked with RSE to apply this approach at its Alderney and Knapp Mill Treatment Works in Bournemouth. This is part of its £200m investment programme to modernise the water treatment process, future-proof it against a changing climate and minimise the impact on the environment.
RSE’s modular ceramic membrane plants are fabricated off-site in Muir of Ord, north of Inverness, and transported for final installation and commissioning.
This method offers significant benefits for Bournemouth Water, including faster delivery, lower site impact, and reduced carbon footprint, while meeting high technical and regulatory standards.
Bournemouth Water has installed 70 of RSE’s modular, transportable treatment units at Alderney Water Treatment Works with another 70 set to be installed at its Knapp Mill site in the next few months.
Works at Alderney are nearing completion, and construction is due to start at Knapp Mill in the coming months with both projects progressing well.
Richard Stanbrook, Director of Drinking Water Services at Bournemouth Water, said:
“We’re pleased to see RSE recognised with this award. Their modular technology will play a key role in how we deliver new treatment capacity more efficiently and sustainably at our Alderney and Knapp Mill Treatment Works.
“Projects like Alderney and Knapp Mill show what’s possible when we take a new approach to how infrastructure is delivered. RSE’s pre-made filtration units are helping to bring new, innovative technology into these treatment works and we’re so pleased to have partnered with RSE to help bring these projects to fruition.”
Andrew MacDowall, FEED Director at RSE said: “This honour recognises the outstanding technical expertise and innovation that we have developed over more than 40 years and entitles us to display the esteemed Royal Emblem for the next five years.
“Bournemouth Water has been an early adopter of RSE modular plants and lead the drive to change how treatment plants are built and upgraded across the UK. We’re pleased to be working with them.”
The King’s Awards for Enterprise are among the UK’s most prestigious business honours, first established in 1965.
Over 8,000 companies have received a King’s Award which recognises outstanding achievement in innovation, international trade, sustainable development, and social mobility.
