Essential support from Bournemouth Water for local causes

08th June 2022

Two fantastic local causes which support wellbeing in the community have been provided vital funding by Bournemouth Water.

The partnerships come as part of Bournemouth Water’s Neighbourhood Fund to support community groups and initiatives which will improve the lives of residents by inspiring physical activities, enhancing education, health and wellbeing and delivering positive environmental outcomes.

The CRUMBS Project is a charity providing training in catering, housekeeping and administration for adults with a range of disabilities, giving them the life skills that encourage them into employment and independent living.

The funding will aid the creation of a ‘Community Hub’ to bring residents of Hibberd Court (retirement housing) and CRUMBS trainees, who are disadvantaged adults, together at regular events to provide socialising and relationship building opportunities.

Jo Ecroyd, Bournemouth Water’s Customer Service Director, said: “Local causes such as these are doing fantastic work in the community to support people, provide opportunities and promote wellbeing. We’re proud to be able to offer support through our Neighbourhood Fund.”

Professor Peter. A. Jones MBE, Chair of The CRUMBS Project, said: “Our new Community Club will provide much-needed socialising and relationship-building opportunities for disadvantaged adults to help them gain skills and improve their self-confidence and well-being. We’d like to thank Bournemouth Water for their support in making these activities possible.”

Hope For Food is a Bournemouth-based charity, run by volunteers, with the aim of providing life’s basic essentials to people in need of help due to the current economic climate. The funding from Bournemouth Water will go towards providing food hampers for the homeless and financially vulnerable.

Mary Duncan, Operations Manager at Hope For Food, said: “We’re very grateful to Bournemouth Water for the grant to support families in need, which has helped us provide food for our weekly food parcels.”

The local community groups which are benefitting from the Neighbourhood Fund have been struck by the effects of the pandemic due to a limited supply of cash and the inability to receive funds through typical methods of fundraising.
