Together with our delivery partners Life Education Wessex, we've been inspiring young minds in Bournemouth since 2015. Each year we teach thousands of children in the Bournemouth area about the vital role water plays in our lives and how they can help protect it.
Why not book a free Waterwise workshop for your school?
Ever wondered where your water comes from? Our fun and interactive 'Waterwise' workshops teach children about the water cycle, water conservation, and the vital role water plays in our lives. This helps pupils understand the world around them and appreciate how important water is for everything from health and hygiene to wildlife.
In the 2023/24 academic year we taught over 2,300 students in 37 schools across the region. Together, we're shaping a water-wise future, one child at a time.
By teaching children about the water cycle and its importance, we're fostering a generation of water-conscious individuals. These young minds are learning about:
When they understand these concepts, children can make informed decisions and take actions that benefit our planet. By teaching them now, we're securing a sustainable water future for generations to come.
As our region faces increasing water scarcity due to climate change and population growth, it's more important than ever to be water-wise. By making slight changes in your daily habits, you can help conserve water and protect our environment.
Water goes on a long journey before it reaches your tap. From rivers and reservoirs through a multi-stage treatment process to remove impurities, on into supply reservoirs and miles of pipes, your drinking water is a precious commodity.
We're committed to investing in the future of water. Our £200 million investment in state-of-the-art water treatment technologies Bournemouth Water will ensure a consistent supply of high-quality drinking water for generations to come.
If you think a lesson about the water system might be a bit boring, think again. Our skilled classroom educators know how to bring the world of water alive for young people. Using pictures, stories, worksheets, and activities, we make sure all pupils are engaged and learning.
Our lessons are adapted to suit different age ranges. We’ve been doing them for many years, so we know what works. For example, we use a friendly Otter character to captivate young people’s imaginations about all the creatures that live in waterways and how water quality impacts them. We round off a lesson with children lining up to pet a cuddly toy Otter, helping to make the session memorable.
Our partnership with Life Education Wessex (LEW) began in 2014 when Bournemouth Water (formerly Semcorp) entrusted LEW with the full delivery of the 'Waterwise' workshops. These workshops were launched in January 2015, with the goal of reaching 50% of schools in the Bournemouth Water area annually.
We recently met with the Life Education Wessex team to explore opportunities to strengthen our partnership and enhance our education offerings.
