Preparing for an incident

If you will be affected by the planned shut, then please use the tips below to prepare.

Prepare ahead of time

When we schedule work in your area, we will notify you of the date and duration of the supply interruption at least 48 hours in advance. Unlike unplanned events, this will allow you to prepare ahead of time. Below, we have provided some tips on how to prepare for a planned shutdown if you have been notified.

Storing water in advance

You can store water in advance to use for cooking, drinking, and pets when your supply is interrupted. There's no need to buy bottled water; simply fill up water bottles or containers from the tap while it's still available, ideally on the morning of the interruption.

Using a water butt

During an incident you won’t have water to flush the loo. Use your water butt or some of your stored water (if you have enough) to flush your loo, just fill up a bucket and pour into the bowl.

Keeping the essentials

Hand sanitisers or soap without water can be used to wash your hands. Baby or biodegradable wipes can help too, but remember not to flush them down the loo. Dry/no wash shampoo can be used to wash your hair until your supply returns.
