Protecting the environment

Minimising our impact on the world around us and taking steps to protect and enhance it where possible.

The Bournemouth area is blessed with a thriving natural environment that has helped shape the culture and lifestyle of the region while providing the focus for a thriving tourism and hospitality industry.

You’ve told us the environment is of high importance and you expect us to protect it at all times.

We are working to protect our environment by minimising our carbon footprint, improving raw water quality and continuing to improve biodiversity through our environmental projects.

Did you know?

We recently installed a nesting box at our New Milton water tower for a pair of rare and protected peregrine falcons which have since raised three healthy chicks.

Our goals for 2050

  • Improve our energy efficiency
  • Continue with our programme of green energy schemes - targeting 50% of our energy to be generated on site by 2050
  • Work with local farmers and landowners to improve the quality of the water in our lakes, reservoirs and rivers.

Should you get a water meter?

Water meters have important benefits for you, for us and for the environment as you can have more control over your water use and leaks are easier to detect.
