The external stop tap (which is our responsibility) will usually be installed at the boundary of your property in the pavement.

If you’re on a water meter the stop tap may be installed inside the meter chamber.

To turn off your water supply in an emergency, if you have a leak for example, you should use your internal stop tap.

There are different types of external stop taps, however most can be switched off by turning the head or tap 90 degrees or rotating it clockwise until it stops. You may find a pull lever on your stop tap, which should be pulled up to close it and pushed down to open it.
