Average Bournemouth Water bill falls

06th February 2020

Bournemouth Water’s average household customer bill for 2020/21 will be £8 less than the current year.

From 1 April 2020 the company’s average water bill will be £136, one of the lowest in the industry.

While keeping prices low, Bournemouth Water continues to deliver improvements in areas customers have identified as priority, and as such remains one of the best performers in the industry for reducing leakage and delivering great customer service.

The company is ensuring a safe and reliable water supply at a fair price, while being knowledgeable and efficient when there is a problem.  Bournemouth Water has also made good progress in other areas customers consider important, such as fixing visible leaks quickly.

Bournemouth Water is encouraging householders to consider having a water meter fitted as this could save money. At the same time the company has extended the range of support it offers eligible customers who have difficulty paying their bills, following the introduction of our WaterCare tariff and Freshstart initiatives in 2017. The company is also working in partnership with Citizens Advice to support customers who may struggle to pay their bills.

Jo Ecroyd, Customer Service Director, said: “We are determined to keep delivering industry-leading standards of high-quality drinking water and will continue to focus on what matters most to our customers, so that the service we provide is one that they value – at a cost of around 37p a day.

“By being efficient, we have also been able to cushion our customers from inflationary pressures, unlike some other water companies.”

Individual customer bills will vary according to a number of factors, including usage, the rateable value of their house and whether they are on a meter.

Under our 2020-25 business plan, which was fast-tracked for approval by the water industry regulator, the average Bournemouth Water bill will be lower in 2025 than it was in 2015. At the same time, we will be delivering a programme of major investment including two new water treatment works in the Bournemouth area.
