Bournemouth Water renews contract with education partner

BOURNEMOUTH Water has renewed its contract with Life Education Wessex (LEW) as its education partner.

The well-known charity, which has longstanding links with the water company, delivers the Waterwise education programme.

Bespoke sessions are provided by LEW on behalf of Bournemouth Water which supplies drinking water to approximately half a million people. Pupils in schools across Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire have taken part in the interactive presentations, discovering the importance of treating water as a precious resource.

Children learn about the water cycle, safety around rivers and lakes and the ways water is collected, cleaned and delivered to homes and businesses.

Bob Taylor, Managing Director of Bournemouth Water, said a greater number of students had been reached since partnering with LEW.

He added: "Since February last year, 24 schools have benefitted from our Waterwise presentation, involving nearly 3,000 children.

“The sessions aim to teach the importance of treating water as a valuable, finite resource and show tomorrow’s adults how to be water efficient. Parents have told us their children take what they’ve learnt home, and this can influence the family’s attitude towards water.”

Bournemouth Water has been successfully visiting primary schools since 2010 with its Waterwise education programme.

 Designed for children aged five to 11 years studying at Key Stages 1 and 2, the programme is available to schools free of charge across the company’s area of supply. A more advanced presentation is also available for Key Stage 3.

“As a water company, we must undertake long-term planning to ensure the continued supply of clean water for future generations. Life Education Wessex’s vast experience and success in delivering our Waterwise presentations means we can reach even more people with our important message,” added Mr Taylor.
