Water charges regulation

The water industry regulator, Ofwat, sets the amount we charge for water supply services. In 2009 Ofwat set our prices for the five-year period from April 2010 to March 2015. It assessed the investment we need to make to:

  • maintain the water supply infrastructure
  • enhance the service where necessary
  • ensure that we have sufficient water available to meet demand well into the future
  • meet our day-to-day operating costs

Ofwat also assessed the scope for efficiency improvements and set us targets to reduce our costs during the five-year period. It found that our prices need to increase by an average of just less than 1% above inflation* each year for five years.
