Water use checklist

Here are some suggestions that might explain why you have used more water than normal, causing your metered bill to be higher than expected.

Billing period:
Was your previous bill for a shorter period?

More people at your property:

  • Has anyone moved into your property?
  • Have you had visitors staying?
  • Have you had a baby?

Plumbing problems:

  • Do you have any dripping taps? (A dripping tap can waste as much as one litre per hour.)
  • Has your washing machine flooded?
  • Are any of your toilets leaking? Some cisterns leak into the bowl, so it may not be obvious.

Building and gardening:

  • Has there been any building, renovation or decoration at your property?
  • Have you been using a garden hose or a sprinkler more often?
