Former manager celebrates ten years as WaterAid speaker

Hazel Taylor, who retired at the end of 2013 after 22 years with SBW, latterly as Community Liaison Manager, has organised more than 170 talks in the Bournemouth area for the international charity.

The free talks, in schools, churches, community groups and clubs, bring to life WaterAid’s vital work providing access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene education for some of the poorest people throughout the world.

Hazel said: “I passionately believe that everyone, everywhere should have access to safe water and sanitation and I hope that by talking to groups we can raise awareness of the vital work that WaterAid does.
"It’s always a pleasure to talk to the many lovely people in our community and all our speakers say what wonderful welcomes they receive.
"Every year the United Nations designates March 22 as World Water Day. It’s a chance for us to think about what safe water means to us and what it could mean to the millions of people around the world living without it."

WaterAid was formed in 1981 by people working in the British water industry and has continued to be supported by them after it became an independent charity.
Each year SBW distributes appeal leaflets with water bills and customers have given generously over the years, with donations totalling over £600,000 since 1994.

Although she has retired from SBW, Hazel will continue to speak for WaterAid, as well as being the local Speaker Co-ordinator and undertaking a support and fundraising role as a WaterAid volunteer.
