We have amongst the lowest levels of customer debt in the water industry. However, we recognise that some of our customers are experiencing real difficulties in paying their water bill, particularly in the current economic environment. Our current policy is to work closely with these customers and various local support agencies to identity ways of reducing the financial burden and making it easier for customers to manage their payment responsibilities.
For eligible customers, we have in place the WaterSure tariff, which caps the amount payable at the level of the average household bill – currently £135.66 a year. In addition, we are committed to developing a social tariff designed to offer further help and support for customers experiencing genuine financial hardship.
