How to read your meter

How to open the water meter box

Most meter chambers can be opened by inserting a flat-headed screwdriver into the recess on the edge of the cover and levering it up. Some chambers have a ‘screw top’ that needs a special tool (we can lend you one if you ask us).

Important safety information

Water meters are usually placed near the property boundary and are often under pavements, grass verges, footpaths or roads. Please don’t try to look at your meter unless you can do so without getting in the way of people or vehicles or putting yourself in danger.

If you can reach your meter safely, please make sure the lid is closed properly and level with the ground when you have finished so that it does not cause any danger to others. We cannot accept responsibility for any damage or injury caused as a result of you reading your meter.

If you are not sure about any of this, please call us on 01202 590059.
